Scholarships
The organizers recognize the importance of providing support to maximize the number of individuals from low- and middle-income countries who participate in the Congress.
The UICC World Cancer Congress immediately precedes the 13th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health. A limited number of scholarships will also be awarded to individuals who meet specific criteria to attend both conferences and further develop relationships and synergy between cancer control and tobacco control. Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis.
Scholarships provide support to an individual for some or all of the following costs:
- Round-trip economy airfare from country of residence to Washington, D.C.
- Congress registration fee
- Accommodation in Washington, D.C. during the Congress
Eligibility
Applicants for a scholarship must:
- Work and/or study full-time in cancer prevention and control or a related field
- Have adequate command of English to actively participate in the Congress
- Work/live in a low- or middle-income country
- Have no connections to the tobacco industry
- Submit an abstract to the Congress by the scholarship application deadline of November 30, 2005

Timetable
- The online and paper application will be available in September 2005.
- Complete applications and abstracts must be received by November 30, 2005 in order to be considered.
- Applicants will be notified regarding their acceptance status no later than February 2006.
Fellowship Program
The UICC World Cancer Congress 2006 is pleased to offer the American Cancer Society University Fellows Program.
The American Cancer Society University (ACSU) is an international training program that works to strengthen the capacity of community-based cancer control organizations in developing countries by training their staff and volunteer leaders in areas such as advocacy, collaboration, fundraising, governance, media relations, needs assessment, patient services, prevention, and early detection, program planning and evaluation, and volunteerism.
ACSU Fellows Program
The UICC World Cancer Congress Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will include:
- ACSU Pre-conference training
- Participation in the Congress
- Opportunity to apply for funding support following the Congress
- Economy, round-trip air travel from country of residence to Washington, D.C., accommodation in Washington, D.C. during the pre-conference training and Congress, a small per diem, and conference registration fees.
Eligibility
Individuals who wish to apply to participate in the Fellows program must meet the following criteria:
- Work or study in cancer control
- Live/work in a low- or middle-income country
- Educational and/or professional background that qualifies her/him to benefit from short, intensive program
- Employment or study of practical importance in his/her country
- No connections to the tobacco industry
- Sufficient command of English to participate
- Ability to make practical use of skills and knowledge to mobilize others
- Submit abstract to the UICC World Cancer Congress
