The Best from Around the World: Program Successes That Can Save Lives
Convention Center 207AB
We will engage symposium attendees to determine what have been the most successful strategies to combat tobacco use around the world and what elements may be translatable to the U.S. and other countries. We will present landmark examples from around the world successes in tobacco control (e.g., smoke-free environments; product regulation; counter-marketing strategies; community-based programs; surveillance and evaluation). We will hear Expert World Panel opinions as to how “lessons learned” may or may not apply to other countries and recommendations for world tobacco control initiatives. The following objectives will be addressed during the symposium: (1) To understand the “best of” successes of tobacco control efforts around the world; (2)To understand the degree to which tobacco control successes that work in one country will work in other countries; and (3)To understand how tobacco control programs in U.S. and other countries can maximize success.
